  • Owari Onsen has barely changed since my parents took me there as a kid, about 40 years ago. It feels like time-slipping back to the Shōwa era. This water and Ikeda Onsen over in Gifu are my personal best of the Tokai region.

  • Owari Onsen. That horde of giant boulders — building that today would be brutal, in labor and cost. The water is hot by default, so I remember hunting for the cooler spots to get in. And it keeps you warm for a long, long time afterward.

  • Owari Onsen got seriously cleaned up in the renovation, but personally I loved the old vibe more. The entrance with the theater troupe's photos above the door, the bridge to the now-gone ryokan, the sealed-off staircase to the second floor, the women's clothing stall inside, that blue carpet... it was the best atmosphere.

  • Off the top of my head there are three missing. Shiratori-no-yu in Nagoya's Minato ward — sounds like a regular bathhouse, but it's a genuine natural onsen struck while they were building the foundations of a municipal parking lot. Yoshigo Onsen "Tahara Yunosato" in Tahara — it stopped advertising as an onsen and barely does public business now, so nobody notices it; these days it runs alongside a nursing home but still takes daytime bathers. And Yunoshima Onsen in Toyone — a hidden spring. Also, no super sento ever topped Dai-Nagoya Onsen. I want to soak in that again. If anyone around Nagoya tells you Aichi has no natural onsen, take them to Owari Onsen. That usually shuts them up.

    私が知ってるだけでも3件紹介不足があるな。 天然温泉 白鳥の湯（名古屋市港区） 　銭湯のような名前してるけど、市営駐車場の基礎を作ってた時に掘り当てた温泉を利用してる歴史は短いが正真正銘の天然温泉。 吉胡温泉 田原湯の里（田原市吉胡） 　温泉としての広告をやめ、一般営業も細々なので一般人は気が付かない温泉。昔は普通の温泉施設だったが、現在は特別養護老人ホーム併設の温泉施設として日中の日帰り入浴が可能。 湯の島温泉（豊根村） 　秘湯 スーパー銭湯だけど大名古屋温泉を超える温泉施設は無い。またあれに入りたい。 もし、名古屋市周辺の人で愛知県には天然温泉が無いと言うやつがいたら尾張温泉に連れていきましょう。大抵それで黙ります。

  • Nagoya Crown Hotel, right in the city — it's a business hotel, but it has a free-flowing onsen from its own source. It took care of me through plenty of work conferences and training stays.

  • Whenever I stayed at a business hotel in Nagoya, I'd head to a nearby bathhouse for dinner and a soak — such a shame that Taihei Onsen Tenpu-no-yu and Maruya Tama-no-yu, both conveniently close to the station, have closed down. And everywhere that's left has outsourced its dining to the same operator, so you end up eating the exact same menu as at every local bathhouse.

    名古屋にビジホ泊まりすると、晩メシ＆風呂で近隣温泉行ってたけど、比較的駅チカで便利だった太平温泉天風の湯と丸屋玉の湯が閉館しちゃったのは残念だったなあ。ただ、どこも食事処がさぬき屋に委託に変わっちゃって、地元の風呂屋と同じようなメニュー食べる羽目になったなあ。

  • The ones I'd actually recommend to someone from outside the prefecture: Eiwa Onsen Misogi-no-yu, Gongitsune-no-yu, Sakai Onsen Yumotokan, and Owari Onsen Yumotokan. That's about it ♨️

  • Aren't you forgetting Yunoshima Onsen ♨️? In Toyone village? I got there via the San-en Nanshin Expressway, past Sakuma Dam, down Prefectural Road 1 — it is seriously far. Day-bathing only, and open weekends only.
