• My family home is in Tokyo, so we always went for the day — then my grandchild was born and we started using the Disney hotels. When the baby was tiny they gave us a spacious room at Disneyland Hotel. Later, as a toddler, he got sick and they let us keep using a room at Toy Story Hotel even after we'd checked out. We've stayed everywhere except Fantasy Springs Hotel and I love them all. My daughter says that with kids, Toy Story is the one — there's plenty to do without leaving the hotel.

• We live far away, so being close to the park matters — we've stayed at all of them except Celebration. My absolute favourite is MiraCosta: you feel the park the moment you step out. Staying at Grand Chateau with a friend was fantastic too.

• Mostly it's Disneyland Hotel and Celebration for us, then Ambassador — but the MiraCosta room we finally managed to book was a different level of happiness. Even the time in the room felt like the dream continuing. The food and service at Oceano were wonderful too.

• I've stayed at all of them except Fantasy Springs. Last year I got a harbor-view room at MiraCosta for the first time — right at the front, too. Disneyland Hotel I've done about four times, enough that they treat you as a regular and had me fill in a form with my name. Ambassador maybe three. Toy Story once, right after it opened; this June I'm booking a Square View room there. Once you've stayed at the official hotels they get you, so you keep going back even at the price.

• We stayed in a park-side room at Disneyland Hotel! After a day on your feet, eating Baskin-Robbins ice cream while looking out at the park, and having people wave at you from the Resort Line — very Disney, very fun. MiraCosta next.

• For me Tokyo Disneyland Hotel is the favourite. It's close to the park, it's the classic, and it lets the dream carry on. Fantasy Springs Hotel is gorgeous, with Rapunzel and Tiana painted around, so it's perfect for anyone who loves the princesses — and for those of us coming from far away, getting into the popular Fantasy Springs area on Happy Entry is a real gift.

• At the entrance they check your booking — I just said Grand Chateau at Fantasy Springs and it had clearly already been passed along: the cast member said 'Mr. so-and-so? Let me walk you to the Grand Chateau lounge' and took my bags. From that moment you could feel the Grand Chateau treatment.

• Those of us travelling in from elsewhere end up staying over a lot. I work in order to go to Disney, so I stay at the Disney hotels often. At Ambassador my tenth stay got me a commemorative pouch. Next I'll aim for MiraCosta or Disneyland Hotel — though Ambassador is the one I love. The next milestone gift is at 50 stays, which, lol, no chance.

• Toy Story Hotel was our default (it's relatively cheap and the kids are thrilled), but the other day I stayed in a Pier Double room at MiraCosta for the first time and now I'm ruined! MiraCosta magic is real. Next up is Disneyland Hotel in the new year.

• I've stayed at Disneyland Hotel, Ambassador and Celebration, but never MiraCosta, Toy Story or Fantasy Springs — one day. What bothered me at Celebration was that the changing area has no door and there's hardly anywhere to hang your clothes. Disneyland Hotel and Ambassador, though: completely satisfied. Those two are the best.

• Too much old footage… I stayed at Celebration Hotel recently and the breakfast menu has changed so much that almost nothing shown is still there, the shoe dryer is gone, and the Disney merchandise corner doesn't even have a display case any more — just a space with a video playing.

• The best thing about the Disney hotels is how fast the hot water comes through. Fantasy Springs and Toy Story do have small bathrooms, though. Also, you used to get a key card with each hotel's own design; now it's a plain white one you have to hand back. The phone-unlock is nice, so I suppose it evens out.

• I managed to land Celebration and MiraCosta for Golden Week, and I'm trying to secure Toy Story next — but cancellations just don't come up and I was starting to give up. Then I found this video. Every hotel's appeal is in there, so I can keep hunting for a cancellation.

• I stayed at Toy Story Hotel and Ambassador Hotel recently and both were superb. Toy Story Hotel is fun just to be in — going purely for the hotel is a valid plan. And Ambassador has the character greetings plus Chef Mickey's, which is the best.

• Of all of them, my favourite is still Ambassador Hotel — the original one. It feels safe and settled. The cast are lovely, and being a little away from the parks is exactly why you can take it slow there. Ikspiari is attached, so you have the shopping and the restaurants. After that I'd say Disneyland Hotel, where a walk around the Sherwood Garden grounds is lovely too.
