The Cheapest Place to Stay in Osaka: What ¥2,800 and "10 Seconds From the Station" Actually Buys You, According to 875 Japanese Guests

The Cheapest Place to Stay in Osaka: What ¥2,800 and "10 Seconds From the Station" Actually Buys You, According to 875 Japanese Guests

A self-funded Japanese review of a ¥2,800-a-night guesthouse ten seconds from a station on the Osaka Loop Line drew 875 comments, and the most-liked one (502 likes) is about the walk: the fastest of any hotel the channel has covered. The praise is specific — 204 likes for a free washer and dryer with "no complaints except the size," 66 likes for being cleaner than ¥2,800 has any right to be. The catch is structural, and Japanese guests spot it instantly: the "private room" is one hotel room partitioned in two, so the door that locks holds you and a stranger. What the thread argues about is who that is fine for — and where the neighbourhood's locals send you to eat once you've checked in.

Ten seconds from the station is far and away the fastest of any hotel covered on this channel so far…

  • Amazing that the only complaints are the size and the Wi-Fi in the room. Washer and dryer both free is wild too — normally a place this cheap claws the money back exactly there.

  • For when you're genuinely out of money on a trip but still want to sleep on a proper futon, the value here is ridiculous…

  • It was cleaner than ¥2,800 has any right to be. It looks like they took what were single hotel rooms and partitioned each one in two to double the capacity.

  • I only ever use business hotels, so being able to compare like this is a real help. Ten seconds and ¥2,800 is impressive — the size and the half-private thing might be a gap you can live with…

  • Is there even any point in the room having a lock…? Then again, for a pair who want to keep their own personal space, this might be the perfect place.

  • How comfortable it is looks like it swings a lot depending on who you end up sharing with. Otherwise it struck me as a simple-is-best kind of good place.

  • Sleeping in a locked, sealed room with some stranger is pretty rough.

  • It was originally one room, so soundproofing is zero and your neighbour is far too close. Without that it would be a really good place. If you can take the room with someone you know it's an excellent hotel, but being effectively sealed in with a stranger is terrifying.

  • Maybe I only feel this way because I'm a woman, but sharing a locked room alone with a stranger is frightening… 😨 In a capsule hotel at least there are other people's eyes around…

  • A cheap place above a pachinko parlour where you can't lock your own space inside the shared room — that's far too scary for me……

  • I've stayed at this hostel too 😊 The bed was lovely and soft, but I remember not being able to sleep at all because the snoring next door was so loud… The place itself was good.

  • I stayed in this exact room a couple of weeks ago! ¥9,614 for two nights — the rate may differ by date. The bed was good, but the gap to the next bed is wide, so you can hear the person beside you breathing; in that respect it's harsher than a capsule. On the plus side the washing machine is free (within set hours), it's right by the station and the transport links are good.

  • This is the hotel I used on my Osaka trip in February — what a surprise to see it 😳 It's so close to the station that you hear the approach jingle and the announcements straight through, but they lend earplugs to anyone bothered by it, and if you catch one of the through trains to the Sakurajima line you go straight to Universal without changing at Nishikujo. For a room-only stay I personally think the location and the price make it unbeatable! The free-flow coffee in the lounge being genuinely good is another draw.

  • I stayed in a private room here with a friend on the way back from USJ — there was even a TV and it was comfortable. Honestly unbeatable value.

  • The location means you can use it on the way back from Universal, which is hugely welcome. It isn't somewhere you'd come as a tourist, but there are more food options than Tsukamoto lol

Where locals go instead

  • Local here. You can head out to Umeda or Namba, but the area around JR Fukushima station next door has far more places to eat than Noda does. They seem to lend bicycles too, and it's only about ten minutes, so it's worth the trip.

  • Huh, so Noda has something like this. Noda is on the Osaka Metro Sennichimae line as well. If you're going out for dinner I'd recommend the area around Fukushima station next door — around JR Noda it's residential.

  • Until about two years ago I lived in the block next to Sakae-yu bathhouse, so this was a nostalgic watch 😊 At 14:09 — that duck restaurant you can see around there does incredible soba and duck-and-egg rice bowls, so if you're visiting, do go.

  • Noda is right by the market, so the sushi places inside it are a genuine recommendation. They open early in the morning and you get the best breakfast going.

FAQ

How cheap is the cheapest place to stay in Osaka?
The stay in this video was ¥2,800 for one night, room only. A guest who booked the same room says two nights came to ¥9,614 and that the rate moves by date, and another quotes a twin private listed around ¥4,500 per room. Those are the figures as of the comments, not current prices — check the rate for your dates.
Is a ¥2,800 "private room" in Osaka really private?
Not in the way the word suggests here, and this is the thread's main finding. A guest with 66 likes reads the layout as single hotel rooms partitioned in two to double the capacity, and 118 likes ask what the point of the door lock even is: the lock is on the outer door, and two beds share what's behind it. Soundproofing between the halves is described as zero.
Is Osaka's cheapest lodging okay for a solo traveller?
The thread splits on exactly this. Pairs love it — 128 likes from someone who took a room with a friend after USJ. Solo guests are the ones with reservations: 50 likes for "sleeping in a locked, sealed room with a stranger is pretty rough," and one woman notes that in a capsule hotel there are at least other people's eyes around. Snoring through the partition comes up repeatedly.
Where should you stay in Osaka for Universal Studios on a budget?
Guests in the thread use Noda on the Osaka Loop Line, two stops from Osaka Station on the way to Universal: one says the through train to the Sakurajima line gets you there without changing at Nishikujo, another puts it at 10–15 minutes. The trade-off, in their words, is train announcements audible in the room — earplugs are lent to anyone bothered — and a residential area rather than a night out.
